| American roulette vs. European roulette |
| |
Roulette is a famous casino game but the same game is slightly different in America than it is in Europe. Roulette was first played in Europe and due to its rising popularity, it spread all through out Europe and is still a hot favorite in the casinos. Roulette reached the United States in the 1900s and has been a hit there ever since. The striking difference between roulette in Europe and roulette in the United States is that the European version has a single zero roulette wheel while the American version has a double zero roulette wheel.
American and European roulette have similar bets like splits, corners, straight ups, streets, six liners etc. the only difference lies in the additional betting spot with the extra zero in the American version of the game and the new bet is available due to the extra zero. The new bet covers the 0,1,2,3 and it pays the same as the 8-1 in the European version of the game.
The difference in the two roulettes lies with the odds as well. I'm sure you can guess which one has the better odds. The European casinos offer its gamblers a better odd than their American counterparts. The odds are better because of the double zeros. The double zero roulette gives a 5.26% odd as compared to the single zero roulette that gives only a bare 2.70% advantage. That's a massive difference between the two games.
Another difference in the two roulettes is that the European version of the game offers the option of using the en prison rule. This particular rule allows a gambler to either surrender a half of his wagers or leave them for the next game, this rule applies for when the zero comes up. Because of this rule, the odds in the European version of the game are far greater than that offered in the United States. The house advantages of the European casinos are 1.352 % due to this rule, while in the United States it remains at 5.26%.
One more striking difference in the two games is the chips used. If you are to play roulette in an American casino, each player is given a different color of chips. No one at one table will have the same color. You use the chips for your bets. In the European casinos everyone receives the same color chip. Everyone at the Roulette table will have the exact same color of chips. The European casinos do not rely on the color of chips but on memory to separate one player's bet from another.
Be it the American roulette or the European roulette, both the games are good fun. So when you walk into a casino, go ahead and give both the games a shot. See which one you like better. Ofcourse the European version seems a wiser choice, but you never know, maybe your first win will be with the American version of the game and you may prefer it to the European version.
